Computer is not able to detect the cam. I installed packages libuvc-dev, libv4l-0 etc based on various google solutions. Did git and compiled the code and followed innstructions upto "sudo make install" and rebooted machine. But still no driver install. Am I missing any step here? I've followed the guide posted in the wiki, however every time i complete the install and go check on the stream i m presented with the following error: "unable to open display". I was originally running v, and, everything worked fine in v, then after the upgrade today this camera error occurred "Unable to open video device".

Further, if I delete the camera entirely from the MotionEyeOS config via the gui and try and re-add it, the "add" dialog shows that no camera exists to be added! However, if I completely start from scratch by burning a new motioneyeos-raspberrypi Perhaps the upgrade is corrupting the config somehow. I had it working well on I recently updated through the web app to I now have a blank black image.

I removed the camera, and tried re-adding. The camera gets added, however the picture is still blank the date and time on it are correct. Is something in the latest update not playing nice with the camera's driver? Should I go back to the previous version?

PS: trying to change anything on the camera resolution, etc. Refreshing is recommended. None of the local cameras show up on any of the newer versions. I haven't got one. I've tested the last 3 builds and wondering if I need to build off of raspbian which i didn't want to do.

After a while, the upgrade process says succes, but the version number stays onand all of a sudden, the local camera is not detected anymore. You ended up with boot partition from one version and root partition from another. Your only chance is to rewrite the OS image from scratch.

I got a clue from this postthat I will need to write a udev rule, but I have no idea what exactly needs to be done here. I figured this out. Sign up to join this community. Raspberry Pi Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for users and developers of hardware and software for Raspberry Pi. It only takes a minute to sign up. The camera works fine with raspistill -d. This question was no good for me as it never answered my question and I'm not using python. This will have to be run on every boot of the device. The standard motion dosn't work with the RPI camera.

There is a variant called motion-mmal in development which works with the RPI camera. I have just followed the install instructions and not only does motion just work, the example optional motion.

I had the same problem. I eventually fixed it by activating the I2C protocol in raspi confing. Sign up to join this community. The best answers are voted up and rise to the top.

Stewart Jan 28 '18 at Any clue why raspi-config doesn't do that when you enable the cam? Graeme Graeme 2 2 bronze badges. The standard motion works fine through v4l2 after loading module bcmv4l2. Though probably not as good as with MMAL. Some dead links. I had a similar problem. Today it was working, the next day it died.

Welcome to RPi board Alok. Did you checked bugs. I think that is for the raspberry pi camera module. I am using a normal usb camera Active Oldest Votes. Problem Solved!! What I did was: 1 Removed Motion from Raspberry Pi using sudo apt-get --purge remove motion 2 Disabled Raspberry Pi Camera in raspi-config and rebooted the Pi 3 Installed fswebcam using sudo apt-get install fswebcam 4 Tried capturing a photo with it using fswebcam -r x --no-banner image3.

Then Installed Motion and tried streaming it and that also worked!!

This is the solution I am stuck at your point 4. I am running on a raspberry pi zero with raspbian. JRsz Did u try reinstalling motion? Starting from the first step? Make sure you reboot your Pi before installing it again. It worked for me! I was stuck at "no such file or directory" for a couple of weeks!
